Drees & Sommer is new member of the Smart Living business initiative

Drees & Sommer is a new member of the Smart Living business initiative sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). The company is supporting the initiative by contributing its many years of experience in the fields of housing, digital processes and customized smart buildings, while also driving the development of the Smart Living market across all industries.

Digital processes and networking are continuing to advance in the housing industry. In this context, Smart Living refers to smart and networked technologies that make living in the homes and neighborhoods of the future safer, more comfortable and more energy efficient. In order to promote the development of a mass-oriented German lead market for Smart Living products and appropriate business models, the Smart Living business initiative was set up in 2017 under the auspices of the BMWi. The relevant stakeholders work closely together across sectors in the initiative. Its 90+ members at present include major companies such as Siemens, Telekom, Bosch, Fraunhofer, Vonovia and Panasonic – and now Drees & Sommer as well.

The objective of the business initiative is to promote collaboration between German companies to accelerate the transfer of innovations to the market, remove existing barriers and develop sustainable market strategies for the Smart Living segment.

‘Due to its many years of experience and large number of successful neighborhood developments, such as the Heidestrasse District and the Q218 high-rise residential building in Berlin, Drees & Sommer has extensive expertise and knowledge of the industry. We can now actively contribute this know-how to the Smart Living business initiative. We are looking forward to working together and the chance to discuss opportunities for cooperation with partners from different industries in a powerful network. This enables us to create ideal conditions for developing innovative networked living environments with new products, services and business models. In doing so, the user is at the core of what we do,’ emphasized Simon Dietzfelbinger, Associate Partner and responsible for the housing sector at Drees & Sommer.
