Strong Together – Municipalities and Business Companies Moving Towards a Mobility Revolution

The second mobility summit focused on key mobility challenges of the future. The conference took place in Wolfsburg, Germany, on January 16 and 17, 2020. Among the speakers were Drees & Sommer experts Professor Dr. Markus Schmidt and Klaus Dederichs.

For two days everything revolved around the topics of urban development, real estate and transport. The event began with an exciting creative overview of the development of human mobility up to the present and current developments. This was followed by numerous lectures and workshops on subjects such as e-mobility, cable railways as a local public transport concept, mobility hubs and transport solutions for metropolitan regions.

Markus Schmidt of Drees & Sommer, who is inter alia responsible for areas such as smart mobility and business innovation, gave a keynote address in which he outlined the connections between the obligations of municipalities, towns and cities to cater for the basic needs of citizens by providing the necessary infrastructure and the tasks of business companies, which need to make their business locations attractive for highly qualified specialist staff. The core question is why both of them need a coordinated mobility plan, what this concept should look like and what shared challenges they must face.

Klaus Dederichs, Head of ICT at Drees & Sommer, devoted his lecture on the second day to inspiring examples of the networking of digital buildings, neighborhoods and cities with mobility concepts. After his lecture, he spoke in greater detail about this subject in a panel discussion with interested listeners.

The great interest in the lectures and the many subsequent discussions show the high demand and potential which still lie in the subject of mobility – especially in connection with innovative digital solutions.
