The Mercedes-Benz Museum built outside the gates of the plant at Untertürkheim is an architectural highlight and provides a high-profile platform for prestigious corporate events. With its geometrically curved elements and visitor guidance in the form of a double helix, the museum fully exploits the technical potential of the concrete structure.
The Mercedes Benz Museum is one of our Wall of Fame projects. These are projects that we are particularly proud of. They have not only helped our respective clients, but also us as a company.
Why the Mercedes Benz Museum deserves a place on our Wall of Fame:
Architectural highlight—exterior: The gleaming silver monolith made of concrete, metal, and glass attracts attention
Architectural highlight —interior: Ben van Berkel’s spectacular museum building is a work from the inside out. The unconventional form follows its function as the exhibition concept describes the figure of a double helix
Construction completed on schedule and within budget: After the foundation stone was laid in October 2003, the Mercedes Benz Museum celebrated its opening on April 19, 2006
“It was a Monday. Max-Gerrit von Pein (then Managing Director of Mercedes Benz Museum GmbH, founded in 2002) took us to the former museum for the project kick-off meeting. It was overwhelming. There was a bright red convertible with a white leather interiorthe Type 500 K Special Roadster — in the foreground. There was a large table for the meeting participants in the room. It was the perfect setting to get us all in the mood for the project.”
Dierk Mutschler, now a member of the Drees & Sommer Executive Board, remembers the project kick-off meeting
