Five new buildings are planned for construction on the core site of University Hospital Zurich up to 2037. The first major rebuilding stage of the overall reconstruction project will take place in the university district of Zurich city center. The new Campus MITTE1 building will be an almost autonomous hospital for highly specialized medicine. It will include operation theaters, intensive care units and general wards, an emergency department, and rooms for imaging procedures or research. In addition to the functional units for medical care, the design also includes the support areas necessary for running the hospital and for logistics.
