DREES & SOMMER AT THE MAINZ HEALTHCARE HACKATHON

The Mainz Healthcare Hackathon took place from June 22-24. It was officially opened by Dr. Christian Elsner, Commercial Director of the University Medical Center, and Clemens Hoch, Minister for Science and Health in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The Hackathon is an annual event focused on driving innovation in healthcare. Under the guiding principle "Rethinking Health", various players from the fields of health, technology and design come together to develop creative solutions to current challenges in the healthcare sector.

This year, Drees & Sommer was a partner in a block on the subject of the building master plan. This hack involved working with Mainz University Medical Center (UMM) to design the patient room of the future and implement users' needs and priorities. The results were first recorded with post-its and brought together in a schematic floor plan sketch of the patient room. Using a software tool from cooperation partner Inspacion, Drees & Sommer then transferred the sketch to the 3D world in a so-called sandbox so that users and interested participants could walk through it with VR glasses.

Dr. Christian Elsner and Clemens Hoch took the opportunity to be guided through the virtual world by our expert Moritz Milch using VR glasses. Not only the developed patient room but also the new building K2 of the University Hospital Basel was available for a tour. On Saturday, Dreso expert Fabienne Röll was ready to take over this part for the final day - many users of the UMM and participants of the Hackathon made intensive use of it again.
