At the end of October, the real estate industry came together at the Münchner Immobilienkongress (Munich Real Estate Congress) to exchange news and views on the local real estate market and discuss current industry issues. In his presentation entitled ‘Revitalization: Rethinking established buildings’, Dr. Thomas Harlfinger, Partner at Drees & Sommer, illustrated that sustainability clearly also offers great economic potential. In addition to describing a new approach for the energy upgrade of buildings in accordance with the energy plus standard, he also explained why carbon optimization is relevant to more than just the buildings themselves. He also convincingly demonstrated how the Cradle to Cradle® design concept makes it possible to be climate positive instead of just climate neutral – while at the same time ensuring that buildings not only provide people with healthy environments, but also generate income +++as a raw materials repository when they are dismantled.
