The Japanese group Astellas is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. In the Netherlands the company was formerly located in Leiderdorp, spread over several buildings. All 550 employees moved to the new location at the Bio Science Park in Leiden, near the LUMC. The new office is an open and transparent building, an inspiring environment that houses, in particular, a state-of-the-art laboratory for scientific research. Astellas expected to grow further and needed new, often highly educated people. An inspiring working environment and the proximity of relevant training courses offer additional opportunities to attract talent.

The building is designed to encourage interaction between the various users. A central core connects three wings: the entrance hall, the laboratories and an office tower. The entrance hall is a place for meeting and relaxation. The internal garden is a central hub around which the offices and laboratories have been shaped.
