In recent years, the Quartier “Quartier am Strandkai” , which consists of numerous apartments, has been built in HafenCity Hamburg.

The excavation pit, which is surrounded on three sides by water, was constructed to withstand planned flooding in the event of a storm surge. A sophisticated pressure relief drainage system ensured the pit's smooth operation until flooding occurred.
