The modernization of transportation infrastructure is gaining momentum, and the Biese Bridge in Osterburg is a prime example. In Saxony-Anhalt, the road construction authority is renovating the prestressed concrete bridge over the Biese River near Osterburg. Structural inspections have shown that the existing structure no longer meets future requirements, with a decision needed to either refurbish the bridge or build a new one.

Flood protection is a critical aspect of this project, and the bridge structure has been engineered to reduce flood risk.

Our Experts Developed New Standards and Processes

Our client for this project is the State Road Construction Authority, and this is its first structure-specific BIM project in northern Saxony-Anhalt. As the client has no prior experience with BIM, our experts developed new standards and processes over the course of the project.

During Phases 1 and 2, our team collaborated with the local planning office using BIM to establish a clear basis for decision-making regarding the preferred option. At this stage, Drees & Sommer assumed BIM management and supported the project through consulting services. This included actively managing the entire BIM process, defining BIM objectives, and preparing BIM tender documents.
