Industrial and Production Plant
Construction of new direct reduction plant at the SALCOS® site
Drees & Sommer supports one of Germany’s most important industrial decarbonization projects with integrated planning, construction, and project management services.
Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH (SZFG) supports Germany's international commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To this end, the company has set up the transformative SALCOS® "Salzgitter Low CO2 Steel-Making" program. As part of the transformation, the previous carbon-based steel production process will be gradually replaced by a new hydrogen-based method.
With the completion of the last stage in 2033, current direct CO2 emissions of around 8 million tons per year can be cut by up to 95 %. This means that the Salzgitter site alone could reduce Germany's CO2 emissions by around 1 %.
All SALCOS® sub-projects are being implemented within Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH premises. The experts at Drees & Sommer are coordinating the planning and construction participants, ensuring the planning and construction process runs smoothly, and keeping an eye on the costs and deadlines of the sub-projects.
