Episcopal Maria Montessori School Center, Leipzig

A versatile school location was the focus of the design concepts that were created, and comprehensive support was provided to the client and the planning team.  

At the Maria Montessori School Centre in Leipzig-Grünau, the bell ringing at break time is music to the ears because the campus is expanding. The secondary school is gaining a new, versatile building comprising a multifunctional cafeteria, sports hall, open classrooms, and specialist rooms. This will provide space for an additional 196 students in future. At the same time, existing school buildings are being comprehensively modernised and functionally restructured. A particular highlight is that, in future, the schoolyard and sports hall will not only be open to the school, but also to the local neighbourhood and sports clubs. This will create a sustainable campus that promotes education, interaction and personal development.

The team is assisting the client in making key decisions by providing well-thought-out decision templates for deadlines, quality, and costs. Drees & Sommer is managing the project, handling construction logistics and taking responsibility for subsidies and contracts. The result is a successful planning phase and viable concepts and designs for the project. It is clear that the future is being shaped here. This is demonstrated by the Robert Bosch Foundation awarding the Episcopal Maria Montessori School Centre in Leipzig in 2021. Having been awarded the German School Prize, the educational institution bears the 'Excellent School' seal, making it one of the 25 best schools in Germany and setting a strong example for education in the future.
