Lebenshilfe Starnberg
A residential home for people with disabilities has been modernised to create a barrier-free living space.
Designed to be barrier-free and built sustainably with participation in mind, the Lebenshilfe Starnberg residential home in the Söckingen district offers a new living space for people with cognitive impairments. Based on plans by the architectural firm Kottmair Rebholz and urban planners, Lebenshilfe renovated the existing building and added a two-storey west wing.
This created a barrier-free home for 26 residents and employees, comprising eight new residential units and modernised existing apartments and staff apartments. The open-plan living space is complemented by sustainably designed outdoor facilities and a natural garden. As a result, the residential home flourishes not only inside, but outside too.
From the construction site to the running track, the commitment goes beyond project management.
Drees & Sommer supported Lebenshilfe Starnberg throughout the project, planning, managing and organising the entire construction process from initial design to completion. Through close collaboration with the client and planners, the construction site quickly evolved into a labour of love with a family atmosphere. This spirit of cooperation extended beyond the construction site, too: in 2024, the team organised a charity run in Munich which raised an impressive €5,000 for the project, with over 3,000 kilometres run.
