Project Duration

2016 – December 2025

The Medical Association of Lower Saxony officially opened its new headquarters on April 12, 2024. The new building houses both the state headquarters and the Hanover district office. This striking facility serves as a modern workspace for up to 400 employees and provides a state-of-the-art seminar, conference, and training center for more than 45,000 physicians across Lower Saxony.

The original building from 1966 suffered from severe groundwater issues. Expert reports also revealed the presence of hazardous materials within the structure and renovation work further uncovered significant fire safety deficiencies. The association ultimately decided to construct a new building on the existing site after extensively reviewing all possible scenarios with expert support from Drees & Sommer.

The tiered structure creates a ten-story focal point at the busy intersection of Berliner Allee and Schiffgraben. The large complex blends sensitively yet confidently into its diverse surroundings through its gradual height staggering and articulated facade.

The green roofs meet ecological standards while creating a soothing balance between urban life and direct access to nature. The building features its own dedicated cellular base station to ensure physicians have uninterrupted mobile reception throughout the entire facility at all times. A multi-story interior atrium connects the various functional areas to emphasize the association's open and communicative character.
