Quarters and Developments
Plange Mühle Campus, Düsseldorf
First DGNB Gold certification for a historic neighborhood: Drees & Sommer supported Plange Mühle on its path to achieving this certification.
What do diamond dust, historic preservation and Düsseldorf have in common? In 1906, Georg Plange constructed the main building of an industrial grain mill near Düsseldorf's Media Harbour. Today, this historic site is home to the Plange Mühle Campus, a modern mixed-use quarter combining office space, restaurants, an orthopaedic clinic, and listed buildings dating back to the early 20th century. Green spaces and spacious outdoor facilities encourage visitors to stay a while. Drees & Sommer supported project developer Harbor Properties Development in improving the site's sustainability, from initial assessment to final DGNB certification.
Revitalization creates a sustainable business district
Our experts in district development, sustainability, cradle-to-cradle and ESG were involved in the project. They drew up climate protection roadmaps, calculated the carbon footprint over the entire life cycle and analyzed the potential for carbon storage, among other things. They also developed a biodiversity strategy and measures to enhance the open spaces, taking climate risks into account. The result: The Plange Mühle Campus is the first historic quarter to be awarded DGNB Gold by the German Sustainable Building Council. Based on this, the customer can develop the area further.
