Staay Food Group is a leading international supplier of fresh fruit and vegetables with its own growing locations. Since 1946, they have been supplying a wide range of high-quality fresh fruit and vegetables worldwide. In response to chain integration, Staay Food Group focuses closely on cultivation through cooperation and participations. From its regional offices, it monitors the cultivation process and direct deliveries to clients intensively.

Previously, the company was based at two locations. These locations were merged in Papendrecht. On the Nieuwland Parc site, a new distribution warehouse (with cooling cells) and an office were built.

During the implementation phase, Drees & Sommer (then BOAG) performed quality checks. In addition, we were responsible for coordinating building-related matters between the contractor and the client during the execution of the project.

One of the peculiarities in this project is the UvA's commitment to a very high-quality and environmental performance: ambition level BREEAM-excellent. Benthem Crouwel Architects has designed an energy-neutral building that is extremely durable by using minimal material, recycling materials and using CO2-footprint materials, among other methods. The building consists of a modular framework and a main construction of recycled and recyclable materials. The construction is easy to dismantle, making the building very flexible in everyday use, but also future-proof and easy to adapt to changing demands and developments. The many green spaces in the building and natural ventilation ensure that LAB42 is a sustainable and healthy building with a comfortable indoor climate. The sustainability ambitions of the UvA were also an important starting point during the contractor selection phase. Throughout the whole project there have been checks to see whether the quality and sustainability requirements of the university were met.

This 'building of the future' will be used from academic year 2022-2023.
