Location

Munich, Germany

Project duration

February 2017 – August 2017

The grand opening of The Lovelace in Munich took place at the start of September 2017, signaling the start of a unique story: A large unused space in the center of Munich was turned into an experimental pop-up hotel. The partially heritage-protected former premises of the former Royal Bavarian Bankbecame a temporary hotel until 2019. In addition to 30 rooms and suites, The Lovelace also offered a culturally diverse program with space for events and intercultural exchange on socially relevant topics.

The venue occupied a total of 4,800 square meters where exciting people and exciting ideas met. It was a place where pop and politics, art and commerce, society and individuals came together. The Lovelace saw itself not just a place to spend the night, but as a cultural institution – ‘a hotel happening’. The hotel itself was part of the overall concept that also included showrooms, an event room, a rooftop bar, pop-up shops and a suspended lobby with catering. Fully in keeping with the spirit of pop-up culture, The Lovelace stood for authenticity and collaboration. The doors of the world’s first pop-up hotel have been closed since January 6, 2019.

The Lovelace is one of our Wall of Fame projects. These are projects we are particularly proud of. They have not only helped our respective clients, but also us as a company.

Why The Lovelace deserves a place on our Wall of Fame:

  • Experimental pop-up hotel: From September 2017 to January 2019, The Lovelace invited guests to stay overnight and experience culture in an exclusive location in the Munich city center.
  • From bank office to hotel room: The offices of the former royal branch bank were transformed into 30 exclusive rooms and suites.
  • Innovative design concept: A 360° curtain system created a further envelope, inviting guests to discover the rooms. A hotel as staging!
