Deutsche Rück describes its Twin Cubes headquarters with the phrase “all the facts are green,” a claim well supported by the building’s many sustainable features. The 360-degree virtual tour on the project website allows visitors to explore the complex in detail, revealing light-filled interiors, abundant greenery, and thoughtfully designed workspaces. The rooftop garden is particularly striking, while the facade combines punctured windows, curtain wall systems, natural stone, and integrated photovoltaic elements on the roof as well as the south and east elevations, and that's just what you can see.

The building utilizes geothermal energy, heat pumps, district heating, evaporative cooling, and waste heat recovery to minimize energy consumption. Rainwater is collected and reused to irrigate plants, while the whole building operates exclusively on renewable energy sources.

Interdisciplinary team achieves ambitious goals

All of these features reflect an exceptional commitment to sustainability. It is no surprise that our team was thrilled to support the realization of this landmark project in Düsseldorf’s district of Heerdt. Over a period of more than five years, our experts in project management, technical advisory, digitalization, BIM, user management, façade engineering, DGNB certification, and digital tools contributed to the development of the Twin Cubes.

The projects' goals were ambitious, and the collaboration between the client, design teams, and general contractor was characterized by the strong spirit of partnership. As a result, the project achieved a significant milestone by being completed ahead of schedule, with Building Unit 1 delivered as early as November 2025 and Building Unit 2 scheduled for completion mid-2026.

Together, the two-building complex combines contemporary office architecture with innovative sustainable technologies. Its commitment to environmental performance is further reinforced by DGNB certification, underscoring the project’s high standards for sustainability and quality.
