The Institute of Virology is an independent unit within the Department of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene at the University Medical Center, Freiburg. The remodeling and refurbishment work involved the creation of S2 laboratories (biosafety level 2). The floor layouts were completely redesigned to meet user requirements. All laboratory equipment was modernized, windows were replaced and furnishings and fittings renewed.
