With about 540,000 square meters of gross floor space, the Siemens Campus designed by KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten aims to become a new and lively urban district in Erlangen. Here, Siemens will offer its employees an innovative working environment with efficient office spaces, and at the same time the technology giant will encourage research institutes and startups to move into the campus. ‘The Siemens Campus will be the new flagship location for Siemens in Erlangen and the wider region’, said Professor Ralf P. Thomas, Chief Financial Officer of Siemens and Member of the Managing Board, at the topping-out ceremony. By the middle of 2020, about 7,000 staff members will have successively moved to their places of work in the first module of the largest Siemens location in the world. There will be eight new office buildings offering over 100,000 square meters of office space. In addition there will be three parking garages, a bicycle parking station and a staff restaurant. The façade on the first new buildings has already been installed and the interior finishing work has begun, whereas the structural building work is still in progress on the buildings which were started later.
On to the Next Module with Combined Expertise
For module 2, which is situated east of Günther-Scharowsky-Strasse, the preparatory infrastructure and demolition work will begin in early 2019. Four office buildings, three additional parking garages and a new reception building are planned here. Zsolt Sluitner, Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Real Estate, also announced that a 400 square meter showroom would be opened early in 2019 in one of the new buildings. It will enable the Siemens staff and the interested public to gain a first impression of the modern working environment which is arising inside the buildings, with open and flexible office landscapes.
Drees & Sommer is supporting the client in this major construction project by providing project management services to ensure that the costs, deadlines and quality of the project are maintained. ‘The topping-out ceremony for the first module means that together with Siemens we have reached an important milestone in the vision of an open campus, and we look forward to our future cooperation’, said Holger Seidel, Associate Partner at Drees & Sommer. The experts from the international project management and consulting company also provide a comprehensive range of other services in areas such as obtaining building permission, planning the construction logistics, infrastructure, consulting on building information modeling (BIM) and the design of the new working environments. They also provide advice in the process to obtain green building certification for the buildings. The aim is to achieve a gold certification rating for all new buildings on the Siemens Campus site. In the course of the project, care is taken in the selection of products and services to ensure that the use of resources, the environmental impact and the emission levels are kept as low as possible.
