Funding Program for Electric Heavy-Duty Trucks Charging Infrastructure

It’s time to take advantage of this opportunity

A new funding program from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMV), is designed to accelerate the expansion of charging infrastructure for battery-electric heavy-duty vehicles. As part of this initiative, the federal government will invest €1 billion over a four-year period to actively support the adoption of electric trucks and the development of the necessary charging network.

Who is the funding program for?

The program is designed to support a wide range of stakeholders across the freight transportation and logistics value chain, including:

  • Logistics companies and freight forwarders: Development of charging infrastructure at their own depots and operational facilities
  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs): Dedicated funding opportunities with simplified application and access requirements
  • Companies of all sizes: Investments in non-public charging infrastructure for their own vehicle fleets
  • Investors and infrastructure operators: Development and operation of publicly accessible charging infrastructure such as charging hubs or transport corridors
  • Operators of logistics centers and transshipment hubs: Installation of centralized charging infrastructure at strategically important transportation and logistics locations

Relevant for infrastructure and operations: The funding covers not only the installation of charging infrastructure itself but also several critical components required for efficient operation, including:

  • Grid connection and integration
  • Battery energy storage solutions
  • Intelligent charging and load management systems

What does this mean for companies? Now is the time for companies to strategically plan and prepare projects. Funding programs are highly competitive and may only be available for a limited time. Organizations that act early can position themselves to secure funding, accelerated infrastructure deployment, and gain a competitive advantage in the transition to electric freight transportation.
