Hospital reform, sustainability, ESG, integrated project management (IPA): these and many other topics were on the agenda of the 12th Healthcare Conference. The industry meeting, which has been established since 2011, took place again this year with around 200 participants in the Atrium Hotel Mainz-Finthen.

Among other things, Managing Director Stefan Schad presented the first passive house hospital, which is located in Frankfurt-Höchst. In addition, the Managing Director of the Darmstadt Clinic, Clemens Maurer, took a look at the challenges of hospital reform and presented solutions for energy optimisation at the Darmstadt Clinic. Jürgen Zimmermann, Associate Partner, Drees & Sommer SE and Martina Schütz, owner of Congress und Presse, organised the congress.

Heat protection, climate neutrality, zero emissions, ESG and health and wellbeing - just a few of the keywords on the two days.

Drees & Sommer was present with several industry representatives - in addition to Frank Pickel, Head of Healthcare, and Stefan Konnerth, Head of Healthcare Consulting, we were also represented with two presentations by Alexander Rausch and Dr. Lena Reiß:

  • Alexander Rausch addressed the importance of moving from the theory of sustainability strategies and reports to implementation and the significance of well-being in hospital properties in his presentation "ESG - strategic sustainability goals, assessment and implementation".
  • Lena Reiß explained in her presentation on "Evidence-based well-being for staff and patients" that this aspect is still far too rarely incorporated into project management and planning. In the healthcare segment, people mainly talk about medical equipment and special requirements for the structural hardware. Yet the so-called "soulware" has great potential, especially in the area of the shortage of skilled workers.

Another highlight: our project manager Moritz Milch guided interested participants through the virtual world of Inspacion . These virtual clinic tours using VR glasses were very well received and met with great interest, probably because this method will significantly improve clinic planning in the future.

All in all, it was a great event and a good opportunity for networking - we are already looking forward to next year!

The 13th Next Generation Clinic Real Estate will take place on 12 and 13 June 2024 at the Atrium Hotel Mainz-Finthen.
