In February 2016, Schön Klinik Roseneck in Prien became the first healthcare building to be awarded the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) Platinum certificate. Drees & Sommer supported the certification process and has been advising the principal since 2011. The engineering experts assisted the hospital from early goal-setting and participation in the DGNB pilot phase right through to completion and presentation of the certificate.

The Schön Klinik Roseneck in Prien am Chiemsee treats patients with psychosomatic disorders. To meet the demands of modern health facilities, Building B – which is over 30 years old – was demolished and replaced with a new 3-story ward building with 110 beds for young people and adults.

Planned and built to meet exacting sustainability standards, the new building was opened in the summer of 2014. Schön Klinik attached special importance to health-promoting architecture and the use of low-emission building materials. The building also meets the latest energy efficiency standards and uses the hospital data center as an additional source of heat. The indoor environment concept combines the use of existing storage mass (concrete core activation) and safe-to-touch radiators beneath the windows as quick response heating system for patients, assisted by a ventilation system with heat recovery. The new building meets more than 80 percent of DGNB criteria, making it the first hospital to win Platinum, DGNB’s highest award.
