The city of Halle (Saale) has successfully completed the energy-efficient refurbishment of the Silberwald elementary school and the Janusz Korczak special school. The school is located in the Silberhöhe district, a residential area that was built using industrial prefabricated construction methods during the GDR era. Both schools are housed in one building.
As part of the refurbishment, the roof and exterior walls were newly insulated and external sun protection was installed. The heating system was renewed and energy-efficient LED lighting was installed. In addition, measures to optimize fire protection, the creation of a second escape route, the renewal of stairs and railings as well as the installation of new toilet facilities and acoustic ceilings in the classrooms and administration were carried out.
