Former Freight Yard Becomes a Vibrant Residential Neighborhood 

“From Friedenau to FriedenNOW” is the slogan for Friedenauer Höhe, a new residential neighborhood in Berlin’s Tempelhof-Schöneberg district. A peaceful, lively community now occupies the former freight yard, replacing the speeding trains, screeching rails, and historic signal box.

Drees & Sommer supported one phase of the development comprising six buildings. Each has five floors, an additional setback top floor, and underground parking. The 394 apartments range from one to four rooms. Outside, a public green space and two courtyards provide places for residents to gather.

A Single Team to Coordinate the Development

Drees & Sommer used technical due diligence to identify risks early and support the client’s investment decisions. Tailored reporting and project monitoring kept the client informed of progress at every stage. The team represented the owner on site, keeping track of costs, project goals, and quality. It also coordinated the various stakeholders, helping the client and contractors work together reliably and coordinated their activities throughout the project.
