The new IMITATE research facility (Institute for Disease Modeling and Targeted Medicine) has been built on Breisacher Strasse at the Freiburg University Medical Center. Here, scientists from different disciplines work together under one roof to develop tailor-made therapies for patients. With some 3,200 square meters of usable floor area, the innovative research institute provides ideal working conditions. The research undertaken at IMITATE requires special equipment and infrastructure. In addition to computer and magnetic resonance tomography, the institute uses high-resolution microscopes. Such equipment requires vibration-free and electromagnetically shielded areas for proper operation. The building envelope is of passive house quality, and the ventilation system features highly efficient heat recovery. In this way, a high building energy efficiency is achieved and current Energy Conservation Ordinance requirements are exceeded.
