Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH (SZFG) supports Germany’s international commitment  to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To this end, the company established the SALCOS® “Salzgitter Low CO2 Steelmaking” transformation program. As part of the transformation, the former coal-basedproduction process will be gradually replaced by a new, hydrogen-based steel production process. The completion of the final stage in 2033 will result in a reduction of up to 95 percent of today’s annual direct carbon emissions of around 8 million tonnes. This means that the Salzgitter site alone can save around one percent of German carbon emissions. All SALCOS® subprojects are being realized on the Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH site.
