Logistics & Transport
Nordbau/B-level, Frankfurt/Main main station
Deutsche Bahn AG
Januayr 2015 – December 2025
Frankfurt am Main, Germany
61,000 m² usable space, 55,000 m² gross floor area
The project consists of four construction phases and includes the conversion of the entire B-level as well as the restructuring of the technical areas that interface with the underground and suburban railroad as well as the ventilation areas of the Frankfurt am Main transport company.
The project includes the north building of the reception building (basement to top floor), the entire B level (distribution level to the underground and suburban railroad and connection to the city) and the entire technical centers/ancillary areas below the B level.
Drees & Sommer is using lean site management for the refurbishment of the B level. This also includes the refurbishment of the natural stone façades in the area of the reception hall and the cross platform in accordance with the preservation order.
In addition, the modernization of the marketing and office areas at the main station in particular requires the measures to progress smoothly.
The challenges of the extensive construction project include building during ongoing operations with around 500,000 passengers a day, the large number of trades to be coordinated and the media to be successively activated.
Other complicating factors include the pollutant situation in the building, securing the construction site in the middle of Frankfurt and the complex coordination with various authorities.
