General refurbishment of busy railroad line completed in record time

This central infrastructure project is inspiring: Since mid-December 2024, long-distance, regional and freight trains have been running again on the Riedbahn line. The success of the project was celebrated with the official inauguration of the track. Drees & Sommer supported Deutsche Bahn (DB) with a wide range of services. A special feature of the project is that the general refurbishment of the Riedbahn will be used as a template for the comprehensive upgrade of some 1,500 km of track in the highly congested DB network through 2027.

Launched with interdisciplinary expertise and steered to the finish line

A Drees & Sommer team used Lean Construction Management (LCM) to ensure the efficiency of  processes. The specialists also contributed their expertise with a range of services, such as project and contract management, as well as project and schedule control. The interdisciplinary team supported DB with the renewal of all technical systems and the modernization of stations along the line section. Since the beginning of 2020, Drees & Sommer has also been involved in the renewal and renovation of several Riedbahn interlocking systems.

The aim was to improve the operational quality of the systems and to ensure their availability. Anticipatory planning with digital management tools instruments was indispensable for logistics. This ensured that all components were available on site and on time despite any material and resource shortages or unreliable supply chains.
