Workshop series gives Sparkassen and insurers a clear, practical understanding of energy legislation
GEG 2024, EnEfG, CSRD, GEIG, ESG … These acronyms are just part of the reason why energy, sustainability, and climate action can be complex. On top of that, regulatory requirements are also becoming more demanding at both national and European levels. For Sparkassen, many of which have made commitments to becoming carbon neutral, need to understand what these regulations mean for them so they can meet their new responsibilities effectively.
Drees & Sommer supported the Sparkassen Association of Baden-Württemberg with a series of workshops on energy legislation. The sessions made the subject accessible and practical, focusing on the real estate portfolios of the association’s member institutions. The series began with a workshop in Stuttgart, followed by eight further sessions at various locations. Approximately 200 people attended the nine workshops.
Understanding Energy Legislation and Helping Sparkassen Take Action
The aim was to explain the relevant requirements clearly and show what they mean in practice. Member institutions gained an overview of existing and upcoming requirements, giving them greater confidence in their strategic and operational decisions. Topics included:
The Buildings Energy Act (GEG 2024)
The Energy Efficiency Act (EnEfG)
The Electric Mobility Infrastructure in Buildings Act (GEIG)
Solar installationrequirements in individual German states
European legislation and frameworks, including the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, CSRD, and EU Taxonomy
Drees & Sommer presented the content in a clear, concise format tailored to the participants’ exact needs. They explored the topics in interactive online workshops, with in-person sessions available as an option. The workshops focused on sharing knowledge and its practical value for the Sparkassen day-to-day operations. Participants addressed their specific questions, assessed the implications for their real estate portfolios, and explored practical examples of best practice.
The project strengthened the exchange of expertise within the association. It also provided a sound basis for developing real estate portfolios sustainably and interpreting regulatory requirements with confidence. The compact format kept the time commitment to a minimum.
