Project duration

September 2017 - April 2023

The project developed by Befimmo and Open Minds consists of renovating towers 1 and 2 of the World Trade Center Brussels. Once the project is completed, the multi-functional buildings will house 110,000 square meters of offices, co-working spaces, apartments, and hospitality services.

One of the project’s key goals was to integrate the circular economy concept. In order to achieve this, the team inventoried the majority of the materials from existing buildings, reused them for the revitalization work, and certified them in accordance with Cradle to Cradle ® (C2C).

Drees & Sommer supported the World Trade Center (WTC) project in Brussels with funded Cradle to Cradle consulting.

The WTC Brussels project is one of our Top Projects- a category reserved for work we are especially proud of. These projects have not only delivered exceptional value for our clients, but have also shaped us as a company.

Why the WTC Brussels project deserves a place among our Top Projects:

  • Comprehensive integration of Cradle to Cradle aspects: Drees & Sommer managed to show that buildings can be revitalized by comprehensively integrating C2C aspects in accordance with the standards of a genuine circular economy
  • Realization of innovative sustainability solutions: A detailed material passport ensured complete transparency regarding all materials used in the WTC Brussels project
  • Sustainable urban redevelopment: The multi-functional building - including offices, co-working spaces, apartments, and hotel rooms - serves as a prime example of sustainable inner-city regeneration
