Caught between renovation backlogs and special infrastructure funds, bridges across Germany are in a state of disrepair—a fact that is no longer a secret. If the country wants to preserve these structures for future generations, it will clearly need to make a concerted effort in the years and decades ahead.
The construction and real estate platform DIGITALWERK spoke with our infrastructure and bridge experts, Tobias Meurer and Dr. Christian Ganz. The result in a compelling 15-minute background report that explores the many dimensions of bridge renovation.
One key takeaway from the film is that: Digitalization is essential for the sustainable renovation of bridges in Germany. Drees & Sommer’s infrastructure specialists are currently using an intelligent maintenance management tool for civil engineering structures in numerous projects, and this will soon be deployed internationally as well.
The film also showcases Drees & Sommer’s involvement in the HyBridGen research project, in which we are developing an AI-powered bridge generator in collaboration with others. This innovative tool is designed to accelerate the planning and approval process for bridge construction while conserving valuable resources.
