On November 7, 2025, Baden-Württemberg's Minister President Winfried Kretschmann, Minister of Construction Nicole Razavi, and Minister of Economic Affairs Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut will host the annual event of the Strategy Dialogue on Affordable Housing and Innovative Construction (SDB) at the Wagenhallen in Stuttgart. The focus will be on reviewing the successes of the strategy dialogue to date and looking ahead to the future of housing and construction in Baden-Württemberg. This year, there will be a special focus on the numerous funded projects being implemented throughout Baden-Württemberg as part of the SDB.
Drees & Sommer, EPEA, and Madaster will jointly present the status of their project “Building material register as a basis for inventory analysis in Baden-Württemberg.”
What it's all about: Natural resources are becoming scarcer – including in construction. And this is exactly where the project comes in: With an innovative digital tool, the Urban Mining Screener (UMS), valuable information about the materials used can be obtained from just a few basic data such as the year of construction or the type of building, even for entire cities or regions. The aim is to create a comprehensive building materials register for Baden-Württemberg. This will reveal what our buildings are made of, from the quantity of building materials to the embodied gray energy. This data is worth its weight in gold: it enables targeted recycling strategies, the establishment of secondary raw material centers, and strengthens regional value chains.
