With the new construction of the office building Elisabeth-Abegg-Straße (BEA) in Berlin-Mitte, a future-oriented administrative location for federal authorities has been created. A modern, flexibly usable office building has been built on the site on the corner of Elisabeth-Abegg-Straße and Alt-Moabit. The building comprises 179 offices with 250 workstations as well as additional areas such as a cafeteria, a kitchen for catering to state guests and representative reception and event rooms. Initially, the new building will serve as an alternative property for the Office of the Federal President during the renovation of Bellevue Palace, and then it will be used permanently by another federal authority.

Special requirements arose from the interplay of high safety requirements, ambitious sustainability goals and a tight deadline. The BEA consortium consisting of Sauerbruch Hutton Gesellschaft von Architekten mbH and Drees & Sommer SE was able to prevail in the award procedure with a holistic concept and was commissioned with the general planning at the end of 2021. The project is one of the first federal construction projects to be planned and implemented as part of an integrated project management (IPA) using the lean methodology and the Last Planner System. The innovative project concept is supplemented by a sustainable timber hybrid construction, BIM-supported planning and a cooperative partnership between all project participants via a multi-party contract. The result is a flexible, future-proof and long-term usable administrative property for the federal government.
