Hamburg–Berlin Rail Line

Every day, approximately 470 long-distance, regional, and freight train services operate between Hamburg and Berlin, serving the regions connected by this key rail corridor. DB InfraGO has successfully completed a comprehensive modernization of this vital rail route. Following the reopening of the first section in mid-May 2026, long-distance, regional, and freight trains have been running continuously along the entire 278-kilometer route since June 15, 2026.

The upgraded route's signaling and control systems are now optimized for the European Train Control System (ETCS). In the long-term, passengers and freight customers will benefit from a modern, reliable rail line, as well as several years without major construction works.

Comprehensive Construction Programs for Rail Stations

As part of the program, DB InfraGO modernized 28 rail stations along the corridor. Platforms were extended and raised, platform canopies were lengthened, and new wayfinding systems were installed. Many stations also benefitted from redesigned pedestrian underpasses, additional seating and waiting areas, upgraded bicycle parking facilities, and regionally inspired design concepts. We supported the program as the project manager, among other roles, drawing on our experience from the successful modernization of the Riedbahn rail corridor.
