Time is becoming increasingly scarce in everyday life, and the concept of a 15-minute city aims to address this challenge. In this model, all essential daily destinations such as the doctor, supermarket, parks, and playgrounds, are within a fifteen-minute walk or bike ride to people's homes. This forward-looking approach enhances quality of life, supports sustainability, and reduces dependence on cars.

In Königs Wusterhausen, southeast of Berlin, a fifteen-minute city is currently being developed within the existing Königspark district, originally planned purely as a commercial area. The city will include 2,500 residential units for a wide range of ages and incomes, along with daycare centers, schools, leisure facilities, healthcare services, a fire station and even a customs training center.

A Proven Partnership

Periskop Development partnered with Drees & Sommer on this project to provide holistic consulting and planning services. This collaboration has already been successfully demonstrated and implemented in districts in Duisburg and Lenningen, near Esslingen am Neckar. Our team developed and coordinated the overall process for the Königspark project by supporting zoning and planning approvals and providing project management services. A key factor during the planning phase was the inclusion of a decentralized rainwater management system, designed to capture rainwater at the source and distribute it flexibly throughout the district.
