Healthcare Buildings
Munich Hospital Bogenhausen
The expansion and development of hybrid operating rooms for robot-assisted procedures have established this hospital as one of the most advanced in Germany
Combining Munich, Medicine, and Robotics
The München Klinik (MüK) Bogenhausen hospital has expanded with a fifth building. The new facility opened in 2025 after five years of construction, during which up to 180 workers were on site at peak periods. With an investment of approximately €170 million, the six-story building now houses a new intensive care unit spanning two floors, as well as one of the most advanced transplant units for severely burned patients in the country. In the sterilization department, staff inspect and prepare surgical equipment for seventeen modern operating rooms, including two specifically designed for robot-assisted surgeries. The hospital's emergency department has also benefited from the expansion, with a rooftop helipad and a dedicated express elevator that enables quick and efficient transport of critically injured or ill patients.
Developing a High-tech Hospital
Drees & Sommer supported this project with technical building systems, project management, and technical monitoring. The broad range of user requirements, combined with the integration of highly advanced medical technology, created significant complexity and underscored the importance of efficient and reliable construction processes.
A structured, multidisciplinary commissioning approach enabled precise systems and a phased commissioning process. Our experts ensured comprehensive testing of all technical systems, including ventilation and air conditioning, sterilization processes, and building automation.
Added value
- Precise Technical Coordination: Ensuring reliable medical care and undisrupted hospital operations through optimization of complex technical systems.
- Efficient System Integration: Successful alignment of complex medical technology with broad use requirements.
Services
- Commissioning management in accordance with VDI 6039
- Technical monitoring
“A construction project of this scale—with highly complex medical technology, diverse user requirements, and a large number of trades involved requires precise technical coordination. We structured, reviewed, and optimized the interaction of technical systems to ensure dependable medical care and smooth operations.”
