Office Buildings
The Aurora Building, Amsterdam
Redeveloping a 1960s office building into a sustainable, contemporary workplace while preserving its modernist character
Aurora Amsterdam brings new life to a landmark of Dutch modernism. The redevelopment respects Piet Zanstra's iconic 1960s design while preparing the building for the future.
Located in the heart of Amsterdam, the office building will combine architectural heritage with contemporary workplace quality. New green terraces, a rooftop addition, and a welcoming coffee bar will create spaces where people can meet, work, and connect. A transparent extension at the rear will open the building to its surroundings and strengthen its relationship with the neighborhood.
Sustainability is at the core of the transformation. Aurora is designed to meet Paris Proof ambitions which means that its structure will be aligned with the 2050 climate goals of the Paris Agreement, cutting operational energy use and limiting embedded carbon. In addition, the building aims to achieve a BREEAM Excellent certification. Measures such as thermal energy storage, solar panels, and green roofs will reduce environmental impact and support long-term building performance.
