Project Master Plan for Water Supply in Baden-Württemberg
Setting the course for public drinking water supply in the 1,101 municipalities of Baden-Württemberg
The summer of 2018 was marked by a drought, with peak consumption and restrictions on drinking water use. In Baden-Württemberg, this raised questions about the long-term impact of climate change on the state's public drinking water supply and the challenges this could pose for its 1,101 municipalities. Reason: The public drinking water supply is part of essential public services (§ 50 WHG) and is the responsibility of municipalities in the state.
Through the Master Plan for Water Supply in Baden-Württemberg project, the state, together with state administrations and municipalities, is addressing these issues. The goal is to lay the groundwork today to ensure a reliable drinking water supply in the future despite changing climate conditions. The project is being implemented by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Energy in cooperation with the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection.
