- Ventilation concepts to protect tunnel workers from machine exhaust

Priority for Rail: More Than Just a Slogan in the Rhine-Main Region! As part of a comprehensive infrastructure initiative, Drees & Sommer is helping the client to upgrade the fire protection systems at eleven underground S-Bahn stations between Frankfurt Airport Regional Station and Offenbach Marktplatz. The goal is to integrate cutting-edge safety technologies, such as high-pressure water mist systems, smoke extraction systems and enclosed stairwells, while maintaining regular operations and a high train frequency.

Precision timing is critical

The work is carried out under highly complex logistical conditions. Minute-by-minute coordination between train schedules, shift operations, track closures and construction time windows is essential. Transporting materials between stations and the external loading site requires maximum precision on the rails.

One of the busiest lines in the region: The route is among the most heavily used in the Rhine-Main area, with around 11 million passengers travelling annually between Offenbach and Frankfurt Central Station (S8/S9) – that's over 30,000 passengers per day! The Drees & Sommer team adds value to the project by building strong relationships of trust with clients, adopting an agile and flexible approach, especially in challenging situations, and leveraging an effective partner network.

Added value

  • Future-ready infrastructure for millions of annual passengers
  • Construction during ongoing operations without schedule disruption
  • Efficient use of full closures and night-time work windows
  • Collaborative communication with all project stakeholders

Services

  • Project management for construction, operations, and logistics
  • Coordination of construction schedules, closures, and logistics services
  • Oversight of construction monitoring
  • Coordination of transfer and loading sites

“This projectthrives on trust and a sharedcommitmenttofindingsolutions, particularly in challengingsituations. Our agile approach and strong network enableustorespondquickly and pragmatically.”
