Noise from logistics? Think again. The future doesn't just look different — it sounds different, too. The Ulm-Dornstadt transshipment terminal is being expanded significantly to increase capacity for combined transport (CT). A second, fully automated module featuring remotely operated cranes will increase the terminal's handling capacity to 300,000 loading units per year. Cutting-edge technologies such as “soft landing” systems for noise reduction and three fully automated cranes will ensure highly efficient operations.

Additionally, approximately seven kilometres of new track will be constructed, including an electronic signal control centre (ESTW), a new dispatch building and 68 pre-staging truck bays, all of which will help to streamline traffic flow. The new rail connection will provide direct access to the Stuttgart–Ulm corridor.

This is a key contribution to climate protection.

With direct access to the A8 motorway, the site is ideally positioned for logistics. The expansion will make a significant contribution to climate protection, saving around 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ each year. An environmental impact assessment and a landscape management plan will ensure that the development aligns with ecological standards.

The expansion will take place while the first module remains in operation. To make room for construction, the existing dispatch building will be relocated temporarily. The new module will also be integrated into the existing track infrastructure. Partial operation of the new facilities is scheduled to begin by late 2026, with full commissioning, including the new ESTW, planned for 2028.
