In the eighth century, Saint Corbinian preached the Christian faith on the hill where Freising Cathedral now stands. The historic centre of the city and the co-cathedral of the Archdiocese of Munich are located there today. The entire building is characterised by Baroque architecture. The former cathedral school has been extensively modernised to include modern rooms for a full-day school, a cathedral library, a cathedral choir school, an information point and an administrative office. The basement and upper floor house rooms for servers, building connections and building services.

Historical substance meets modern project management.

Drees & Sommer took over the planning during the implementation phase. A key objective was to preserve the Baroque architecture of the building and restore its original appearance. This includes the vaulted ceiling, columns, parts of the façade, and the unique room layout, for example. In addition to planning, Drees & Sommer was responsible for tendering and awarding the construction contracts. Close coordination with the requirements of monument protection was crucial in this process.
