To secure and expand Frankfurt as an international hub with lifting function, the total capacity of the terminal facilities is to be increased. To this end, the new Terminal 3 (T3) with the associated infrastructure is being built on the south side of Frankfurt Airport on the site of the former US military base. The expansion of Cargo City South and the connecting aprons is taking place at the same time. The construction project includes the new construction of passenger handling facilities in two construction phases (BA). The current planning status of the first BA provides for a maximum passenger number of 14 million PAX on a total area of approx. 306,000 m². It includes the main terminal building, two piers with a total of 24 building and apron positions, access roads, a PTS station and outdoor areas. The commissioning of the first BA is planned for 2026. The sustainable planning is to be confirmed by a certificate (DGNB or LEED). The overall expansion will then have a total of 24 apron and 50 building positions. Drees & Sommer has an overall contract for the management in the entire project.
